How to increase RAM in Windows computer
Page file or Virtual memory is an area or swapping file which is stored in computer’s hard disk. This virtual memory acts like RAM (Random Access Memory) of your computer. So that your computer’s actual RAM memory will be automatically saved. Windows will automatically create a page file for your computer at the operating system installation time. Any way you can increase the virtual memory or the page file’s size through the Windows’s settings for advanced performance of the computer.
If your computer is running slowly, then you should consider to increase virtual memory of your computer. So that your computer will perform much better.
I have already discussed about improving the system performance of windows computers. Now, here, let me discuss about increasing the virtual memory of your windows computer, not only the virtual memory but also RAM memory of your computer.
How to increase page file in Windows computer?
Step 1: From the Windows start-menu search for Control Panel.
Step 2: Open Control Panel and select System and Security options.
Step 3: In System and Security options select System.
Step 4: You will be now opened a new windows which shows computer properties. Now from the left side panel click on Advanced system settings.
Step 5: You will now opened System Properties settings window. Navigate into the Advanced tab and click on Performance Settings.
Step 6: Here you can adjust your computer’s performance such as visual effects, processor scheduling, memory usage and virtual memory. We have to click on Change under Virtual memory.
Step 7: Windows has already created a Virtual memory for my computer which is in about 1 GB size. I need more virtual memory so I am going to change it. So select Custom size and give the Initial and Maximum values as shown in below figure. Click Set and then click OK.
You can set page file as you need, but I recommend you to set Initial size at minimum of 1 GB and Maximum size lower than 8 GB for better effects.
Step 8: By clicking OK in above step you will be showed an alert box. You may need to reboot your computer to take the advantage of the newly created page file. Click OK and reboot your computer.
Check the computer performance after rebooting. The performance will be surely bettered. The changes will take more effect when you play high quality video games.
