How to Secure Facebook Account – Tips for 2017

Step 1: Log in to your Facebook account from your desktop personal computer or smartphone.

Step 2: Open the Facebook account settings as shown below screenshot.

Now follow the below steps.

Enable Login Alerts for New Devices

Once you enable the Login alerts feature for your Facebook account, you will be notified for every access of your Facebook account from a new device. You may set how you should be notified; this feature allows you to set SMS messages and Email notifications for every logging to your account from unknown devices. This helps you to change your Facebook account password to secure Facebook account.

To enable the login alerts for your account, follow the below instructions.

Step 1: From the Account settings, from the left side panel click on Security. Then click on Edit Login Alerts as shown in the picture.

Step 2: Here you may set the ways you get notified for new login info.

• Select the Get notifications to get notified through your Facebook account.
• Select Email login alerts to [email protected] to get notified through an email account.
• You may also add a new phone number or email account to get the notifications. Follow the given steps to add new email or phone.

Adding New Phone or Email to Get Login Notifications

First, click on Add another email or mobile number from the above step.

Then enter the new email or phone number in the popup window, and click Continue.

In the next step, you may need to enter the verification code that you received and click Confirm.

Enabling Login Approval Codes

If you want to secure Facebook account more for new logging activities, you may let to ask login codes to access your account. Once you enable this feature, you may need to enter the verification code that Facebook sends to your phone whenever you log into the account from a new device or a browser.

To enable the Login Approval Code for your account, follow the below steps.

Step 1: From the Facebook Account Settings, click on Login Approvals as shown below screenshot.

Step 2: Remember that, if you enable this feature you can log in to your account from a new browser only if you have your phone with you. Click Get Started to proceed.

Step 3: “If you can’t use the code generator, Facebook will send the login code to your phone,” Click Continue.

Step 4: Now you may be received a six-digit code to your registered phone number, enter the code and click continue. If you need to set another phone number for login code, click on Change Phone Number.

Step 5: Now you have to re-enter the profile password to confirm.

Monitor Logged in Devices

Facebook offers another feature to secure Facebook account which allows you to monitor you the devices and browsers from which you have currently logged in to your account. This is very helpful if you can monitor your logged in devices and filter the unknown activities. If you found any unknown devices or browsers in this list, you may check the logged in date and time to confirm. And if you are sure, you may instantly log out from those devices by using End Activity function.

Please follow the below steps to monitor the logged in devices for your Facebook account.

Step 1: Open Account Settings > Security, then click edit on Where You’re Logged In.

Step 2: Check for unknown devices and click End Activity. You can also use the End All Activity to log out from all devices at once.

Update (Change) Facebook Profile Password

If you have been Facebook for a long while and is using an old profile password, it makes hackers to hack your account quickly. You know that profile password is the primary thing to secure Facebook account. If you have a habit of changing Facebook password more frequently, it prevents hackers from hacking your account.

You may check the age of your Facebook profile password from account settings. To show the age of your facebook password go to the Account Settings >General Account settings and check the Password section.

Click the Edit to update your Facebook password, enter the new password and re-enter the current Facebook password to proceed.

Additional Tip: Turn Off Profile Picture Log in

This is an additional tip for you to make your facebook account secure. Please follow Account Settings > Security Settings > Profile Picture Login, and click Turn Off profile picture login.
